Even though we are a couple of miles away from Jordan’s Chicago cousins, we still make sure he knows who they are. In the last few days he has been saying Joey and Naiya and pointing to their pictures…

I just had to share this brilliant piece of writing by Tammy. A brief view into her days being Jordan’s Mom:
FOR THE LOVE OF TRASHTRUCKS
-Tamar Wax
Today is the day. THE day. The day when the once barely noticed trucks come by and dispense our bins of garbage. Before I had a son, this particular “event” took up absolutely no space in my mind. But now, it’s all I hear about… all week long. So today I was taking my son on a little walk through the neighborhood. I was aware in the back of my mind that it in fact was trash truck day, and that we had not yet seen the glorious trucks passing by our window in the morning . And as we are walking down the block, looking up at the sky for birds, airplanes, wheels, and other such things I never used to look for, all of a sudden I hear the faint sound of heavy machinery stop. And start. Stop. And start again. And all of a sudden, I am filled at the same time equally with excitement and fear, for it occurs to me that I cannot actually detect specifically where the trash truck is currently located. I continue up the block thinking that if I round the corner, the truck will be on the next block. But as I near the end of the street, I hear it on a different block. I turn another corner and as I quicken the pace, I find myself peering into other people’s bins to see if the trash has been collected. Yes, my fear is confirmed. All of a sudden I am running, something that I have not been motivated to do in years. But the fear of missing the sight of the beloved truck, and the stench that follows in its wake have motivated me like no other. Pushing the stroller, out of breath, full-on running, calling out “trash truck!” “trash truck!” it occurs to me right then and there that I am a crazy person. We finally find the truck, and I peer down to look at my son’s little face and in one combined look of awe, happiness, excitement, and wonder, I instantly remembered why I became the crazy person and in that very moment, nothing mattered more.
Here are a few photos from Jordan’s excursion to a nearby pumpkin patch:
And with his cousin Hayley who always showers Jordan with attention:
It took us all summer, but we finally bought a swing set for our backyard. We are so excited to have it installed tomorrow. Sometimes procrastination pays off, as we were able to get a pretty good deal. This isn’t it, but the smile on his face in the park swing here shows how excited he will be when he see the new one in our yard:
And here are a couple of pictures I forgot to post from our Jordan-less 40th birthday celebration in Santa Barbara a couple of weeks ago. We had such a nice relaxing time overlooking the ocean:
Every day Jordan learns a few new words. This last week “Shampoo” was his new favorite word. He says it with a really high (cute) voice. Also, he now regularly says thank you when we give him things he wants (milk, etc) without us asking him to say thank you. He says “Tay-too.” Also, for the first time, Jordan is giving hugs on his own. Seriously heart-melting.
And, we seem to finally be making some progress on walking:

Pt. 2:
We enjoyed two outdoor dinners this weekend in the Camus’ and Sergeants’ Sukkahs. Jordan had a blast.
Here are a few photos of him in one of his new preppy outfits:
This kid is seriously the most polite 14-month old chewer you have ever seen. Always slowly, with his mouth closed…
Jordan loves garbage day cause the TRASH TRUCK comes (one of his favorite words). Here he is watching them in action:
Here he is not letting anything get in his way of getting to the yogurt
40th birthday celebration at Yamato:
The first signs that Jordan might actually walk one day (not that we are rushing it):
We’ve been busy celebrating holidays and my birthday but we’ve also managed to capture several videos of Jordan doing what he does. Here they are:
Howling at the moon (literally):
Snack time with mommy:
Rockin out:
talking to the wheel:
laughing at the wheel:
reading books:
In hebrew swing is Naad Ned. That’s one of the words he knows only in hebrew. Here he is saying his version of the word (Na-ah) while he swings the foot-rest of the rocking chair in his room. By the way one of his new favorite words is “shampoo.” We’re not even sure how he learned it.
This video of Jordan is about a week old, but I forgot to post it.
Click here to hear him babbling. The only real words I hear in there are pee-pee and dada, but I’m sure he’s saying something important (or silly).
We had a great Tammy’s birthday/holiday weekend. Jordan really enjoyed Safta’s briskit (leftovers too!), and he had a blast playing with his cousins. Now when Jordan sees anyone praying or chanting he says “Saba.” We’re not sure how he caught onto that so quickly, but it can’t be coincidence.
The best thing is that, more than ever, it is clear that Jordan understands what we’re asking and sometimes even answers yes or no. Since he was getting a little upset when I was taking him to his changing table to change his diaper, I now ask him, “I’m going to change your diaper now OK?” And he answers yeah, and then doesn’t get upset . He also makes a noise that is hard to describe that Tammy realized means “yes.” Tammy’s language skills are coming in handy as she always seems to figure out what he is saying long before I do.
For those who see Jordan often, his wheel-spinning addiction is not new. I have mentioned that here a few times, but I decided to capture the breadth of his addiction in photos. These were all taken within 24 hours of each other
The round dumbell
the crayons
This is the normal look of concentration we’ve gotten used to when he’s busy “wheeling”
It really doesn’t matter if there are other toys or other kids around to play with, he just wants to be left alone with something that spins:
When we give him cars to roll, he immediately flips them upside down so he can spin their wheels.
The best way to become Jordan’s friend is to roll the wheel back to him. Otherwise, he might not want to pay you any attention.
It took awhile, but we got the rest of our 1-year photos of Jordan taken at Travel Town. There were dozens of great ones, but here are the two we just had to buy:
These were the ones we already posted:
Tonight we went out for an early birthday celebration for Tammy. Jordan is such a pleasure when we take him out to restaurants… So we’ve been doing it more often (P.S. he ate his first Chinese dumpling filled with chicken, and he really liked it):
